About this blog

You never know where life is going to take you! You can be pretty sure that no matter where you think you are going, you are not.

I cared for my mother for about ten years during which she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease, which her sister also had. We believe that their father also had it, even though such a diagnosis was not made. She died last fall, after giving me some of the most intense experiences of my life. On the day that I returned from her memorial service I learned that I had been approved for disability benefits. While a relief not to try working a series of jobs that I knew I would not be able to physically handle, I quickly realized how challenging living on that income was going to be.

The short version is that I moved to the Binghamton, New York area about six weeks ago. With what little money I had I purchased a fixer-upper mid-1970's single wide trailer. It is 12 x 52 in size. The bones are good: non-leaking roof, newer natural gas furnace, new hot water heater and plumbing. Best of all the lot rental fits my budget! You will hear about the rest of the place in time!

So this blog is my adventure with coming to grips with small scale living on a very tight budget while adjusting to a diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease. I know that my life is in for a lot of changes - I have already been through a lot in getting to the diagnosis, and in changing my life-style over the past few years.

I hope that you will join me in the adventure!
